Cavalcade

We enter this world at a time and place not of our choosing. Briefly, we share our life with a multitude of forms—from family and friends to the smallest hummingbird, the most distant star. Though we will leave it, this cavalcade of life and matter goes on. Until eventually, eons from now, even this parade fades, dissipating back into the vast energy from which it emerged.

Against this backdrop of cosmic immensity, a more intimate story unfolds. Set 1993 Columbia University and 1970s-1980s Spain, Cavalcade follows five friends as they navigate studies, careers, and love.  At the heart of the story is Alicia, an orphaned, tango-dancing, quantum physics PhD candidate, whose journey brings the group face-to-face with questions of meaning and connection, as each determines what truly matters most.

"Such a magical world of love, family, loss and renewal Melissa Leet has created in Landslide! I love the deep humanity of this novel, its generosity of spirit, its faith in the self and the self’s interrelationship with others and with the invisible universe. The book’s enchantment makes one want to slip between its covers and inhabit every page."
"The vivid imagery of this book draws you in and keeps you engaged. I often read it while commuting on public transportation - which I had to stop doing because I kept missing my exits! The stories within stories are highly developed without being overwhelming. The characters are realistic, relatable, and therefore lovable. Melissa’s command of language, knowledge of specifics, and understanding of the human condition are impressive. I can not recommend this book highly enough!"
"This is a quiet gem of a book that holds you close until the very end. And when I closed the book I found myself sad to see the characters leave my life. An open hearted lovely read."
